WASHINGTON, DC— Congressman Jim Himes (CT-04) released the following statement after the House of Representatives passed a continuing resolution to fund the federal government today:
“Today, we were able to pass a funding bill to keep the government open without any poison pills like funding for the President’s border wall or defunding Planned Parenthood, which provides vital health services to millions of women each year.
“As Congress moves forward, we should learn a lesson from the passage of this funding package as well as the continued failure of the Republicans’ efforts to throw millions of people off of their health care. In the current climate, the American people are not looking for us to govern from the most extreme edges of the political spectrum. Instead, they require that we find areas of thoughtful common interest and make progress where we can; at minimum, they expect us to keep the lights on without dramatic and controversial policy shifts slipped into last minute bills. In the future I hope those areas include sound investment in transportation infrastructure and tax reform that actually helps American families and workers instead of just the wealthiest individuals and corporations.”
