BRIDGEPORT, CT— Congressman Jim Himes is pleased to announce Ivy Zingone of Stamford as CT-04’s first place winner of this year’s Congressional Art Competition. Ivy is a senior at Stamford High School and her winning piece “Counting Screens,” made with graphite and colored pencil, is of a phone mobile above a baby’s crib depicting how technological advances are rapidly influencing young minds. Her drawing will be displayed in the corridor leading to the U.S. Capitol building for the next year.
“Every year, I am excited to see entries from talented young artists from across the district. Congratulations to Ivy and the winning participants in this year’s Congressional Art Competition,” Himes said. “The arts play an essential role in education, and I am pleased to see so much creativity from the students this year. I also want to thank all of the art teachers for encouraging and supporting their students.”
The competition drew a record 80 entries from across the district. The following winners from the 4th Congressional District were also announced:

The competition was judged by an independent panel of artists, including Bridgeport-based artist and storyteller Shanna Melton, Norwalk-based artist, gallery owner and arts educator Rene Soto and Bridgeport-based mixed media artist Lee Walther.
