The Connecticut Commission on Human Rights and Opportunities (CCHRO) received a grant of $39,900 from the Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) Fair Housing Assistance Program. The funding will be used for complaint processing, training, technical assistance, data and information systems, and other fair housing projects.
The Fair Housing Assistance Program assists state and local agencies that administer fair housing laws certified by HUD as “substantially equivalent” to the Fair Housing Act or Title VIII of the Civil Rights Act of 1968. The program is designed to build intergovernmental enforcement of fair housing laws and provide incentives for state and local governments to assume a greater share of the responsibility for administering fair housing laws.
Currently, Connecticut law prohibits discrimination in housing based on race, national origin, ancestry, religion, gender, marital status, age, familial status, disability, source f income, sexual orientation, or gender identity.
