Connecticut is one of the best states to receive a good education, learn 21st century skills, and secure a job, according to a new study released last month. The Opportunity Index pulls together more than a dozen data points to rank every state in terms of the opportunities they are providing their residents – and Connecticut ranked highest, with a score of 89 out of 100. The national average is 58.4.
The Opportunity Index ranks states based on three areas – economy, education, and community health. Connecticut received an 8 out of 10 for its economy due to its high median income, low poverty level, and widespread access to high-speed internet. The state received a 10 for its education due to its high pre-school enrollment and high school graduation rates. Lastly, the state received an 8 for its community health due to its low violent crime rate and low unemployed teenage population.
Opportunity Nation, which developed the index, is a campaign that has brought together 200 cross-partisan organizations to create and advocate for a bipartisan policy framework to develop a better education system, job creation, and 21st century skills for every American.
This new ranking confirms that Connecticut is one of the best states in the country to live, work, and do business. As your representative, I will work to continue this legacy by improving upon our education system, making sure our law enforcement agencies have the resources they need to keep us safe, and fostering a business environment in which the private sector can create more new jobs.
