This week marks the beginning of the second session of the 112th Congress. The House will consider two bills this week, including installing a new Sergeant-at-Arms and the nation’s debt limit.
Legislation under consideration this week includes:
H.R. __: elects Paul Irving as the 36th Sergeant-at-Arms of the House of Representatives. The Sergeant-at-Arms is responsible for maintaining order while the House is in session. Irving previously served as assistant director for government and public affairs, and deputy assistant director for congressional affairs, in the U.S. Secret Service.
H.J.Res. 98: expresses disapproval of the President’s request to increase the debt limit, which was submitted on Jan. 12. Both chambers of Congress previously agreed to this increase in the debt ceiling under a compromise reached last August.
