Washington, DC – At the invitation of Congressman Jim Himes (CT-04), Reverend Doctor Lindsay Curtis of Grace Baptist Church in Norwalk served as the Guest Chaplain for the U.S. House of Representatives today. Reverend Curtis offered a prayer from the dais ahead of the legislative day, a tradition that dates back to the First Continental Congress in 1774.
“For over two decades, Pastor Curtis has faithfully guided his congregation in its pursuit of moral goodness and modeled how individuals can, through determination and compassion, correct injustice in their communities,” said Congressman Jim Himes. “His counsel has been invaluable to me throughout my time in office. It’s my privilege and pride to have shared Pastor Curtis’ wisdom with my colleagues and the country in this way.”
"It is both an honor and a privilege to have represented the diverse spiritual community of Southwestern Connecticut before the House of Representatives. This experience not only allowed us to extend our collective values to a wider audience but also emphasize the importance of inclusivity and collaboration in addressing the challenges we face as a nation. I am overjoyed to have led this moment of unity and reflection and ask that we continue to come together to inspire hope and dialogue,” said Rev. Dr. Lindsay Curtis, Senior Pastor of Grace Baptist Church
Rev. Dr. Curtis is currently serving in his 23rd year as the Senior Pastor of Grace Baptist Church, a 133-year-old faith-community located in the heart of Norwalk, Connecticut. His local leadership roles have included serving as President of the Connecticut State Missionary Baptist Convention, Chairman of the Advisory Board of Directors for Norwalk ACTS, and President of the Norwalk NAACP.
The Guest Chaplain program allows Members of the House of Representatives to sponsor individuals from their districts who represent their community’s religious traditions to offer an invocation prior to the consideration of business on a legislative day.
