Washington, DC — Today, Representative Jim Himes (CT-04) was named Ranking Member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence. The Committee oversees the nation's intelligence agencies and activities. Rep. Himes was appointed to the Committee by former Speaker Nancy Pelosi in 2013, and was named Ranking Member for the 118th Congress in 2023 by House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries.
“I am deeply grateful to Leader Hakeem Jeffries for entrusting me to once again serve as Ranking Member of the House Intelligence Committee,” said Congressman Himes. “Since my appointment to the Committee in 2013, the threats against our national security have intensified. We face heightened instability across the globe, rapid advances in technology that threaten to outpace our own, and a descent into domestic partisanship and violence. In his first term, Donald Trump attacked, discredited, and attempted to bias the Intelligence Community. Over the next four years, it will be more important than ever to ensure the Intelligence Community is effectively performing its mission of providing rigorous and objective analysis to policymakers, as well as ensuring we protect the privacy and civil liberties of Americans.
“I am proud of the work Congressman Mike Turner and I have done over the past two years to conduct thoughtful oversight, and I look forward to continuing that bipartisan approach with incoming Chairman Rick Crawford in the 119th Congress.”
House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries said, “Today, I am pleased to reappoint Congressman Jim Himes as the Ranking Member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence. With several years of distinguished service on the Committee, Congressman Himes has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to America’s national security, while preserving the Constitutional rights of our citizens.
