Washington, D.C. - Today, members of the Connecticut Congressional Delegation announced $535.8 million in federal Housing Choice Voucher Program (HCV) funding for residents in need of affordable housing options.

“Federal Housing Choice Vouchers help keep more than 2 million families in their homes, including more than 40,000 Connecticut residents,” said Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01). “Despite Republican efforts to slash funding for housing assistance, the Connecticut Congressional delegation successfully fought to secure increased funding for assistance while housing and rental costs continue to rise. These funds will ensure families can find and remain in affordable, quality housing, while also spurring the growth of housing supply across the country.”

“This $535 million in federal funding for housing vouchers will help Connecticut residents access and afford safe, appropriate housing in neighborhoods with better schools and more job opportunities. I will continue to fight for more federal resources to alleviate the pressures of housing for our residents,” said Senator Richard Blumenthal.

“Housing Choice Vouchers alleviate financial burdens for renters and promote economic stability and opportunity across our state. As rental costs go up, this $535 million will help connect more people to affordable housing and ensure every family has a safe and stable place to call home,” said Senator Chris Murphy.

“Over $20 million is on its way to eastern Connecticut’s housing authorities to help residents afford a home,” said Rep. Joe Courtney (CT-02). “Just recently I heard from constituents at my town hall who shared the serious difficulties to find and afford a home. This investment in the Housing Choice Voucher Program will help meet that need for many of our workers and families amid rising rental costs and low availability.”

"Access to safe and affordable housing is foundational for economic mobility. That is why I am proud to celebrate that Connecticut has received $535.8 Million in funding for the Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) program, and why I fought so hard as the lead Democrat on the House Appropriations Committee to secure this increased funding,” said Rep. Rosa DeLauro (CT-03). "Today's announcement reaffirms our commitment to enhancing housing stability, choice, and economic mobility in order to improve the quality of life for residents and families throughout the state of Connecticut.”

“I was thrilled to hear that HUD will make $100 million available to Housing Choice Voucher participants in Southwest Connecticut this coming year, including for housing authorities in Greenwich, Stamford, Norwalk, Fairfield, and Bridgeport. By allowing Americans to prioritize living near public transit, employment hubs, and good schools, this housing rental program recognizes the importance of empowering families, seniors, and individuals with disabilities to identify the housing solutions which best meet their needs,” said Rep. Jim Himes (CT-04).

"Federal Housing Choice Vouchers are a lifeline to vulnerable families and individuals through access to stable, affordable housing. The research shows these children have higher educational outcomes," said Rep. Jahana Hayes (CT-05). "This monumental investment in Connecticut public housing authorities will ensure more families have the stability of having a roof over their heads.”

HCV is the most comprehensive and effective federal program aimed at reducing homelessness and housing instability, assisting over 2.3 million families nationwide in need of housing. The Connecticut delegation secured a $2 billion funding boost for the HCV program in this year’s government funding package, a nearly 20% increase since 2022.

Connecticut received a total of $535,885,710 for 2024. The full list of housing authorities receiving funding can be viewed below.
