WASHINGTON, DC—Congressman Jim Himes (CT-4) released the following statement in advance of President Obama’s planned address this evening on the situation in Syria.
“Since the President raised the possibility of a military attack on Syria, I have attended four briefings with the military, the intelligence community, and members of the administration, reviewed the classified intelligence, held a town hall meeting, and given the President's arguments careful thought. I remain deeply skeptical that a military attack will improve the situation on the ground, quiet the conflict, or improve our National Security.
“Tonight, I hope the president will address these issues and commit to explore the proposal to secure and remove Syrian chemical weapons so that the tragic attack of August 21 is not repeated in Syria or anywhere else.”
