WASHINGTON, DC—Congressman Jim Himes (CT-4) released the following statement after the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) reported that the Senate Gang of Eight’s immigration bill will reduce the federal deficit by $175 billion in the first 10 years and an additional $700 billion in the second decade:
“I am extremely pleased to hear that the Senate immigration bill will significantly reduce the deficit. Not only does the Gang of Eight’s plan secure our borders, help American businesses, and keep families together, but it will also help get the federal budget back on sound fiscal footing. I am optimistic that this news will help continue the momentum we have all been feeling towards finally passing comprehensive immigration reform this year, and I urge my colleagues in both the House and Senate to take up this bill as soon as possible.”
