This week, the House is expected to consider five bills, ranging from use of the Capitol Grounds to the budget.
Items under consideration this week include:
H.Con.Res. 18: authorizes the use of the Capitol grounds for the 32nd annual National Peace Officers’ Memorial Service on May 15. The Grand Lodge of the Fraternal Order of Police sponsors this memorial service each year to honor law enforcement officers who have died in the past year.
H.Con.Res. 19: authorizes the use of the Capitol grounds for the 2013 Greater Washington Soap Box Derby on June 15. The derby has been held on the Capitol grounds since 1991, attracting more than 40 participants each year.
H.Con.Res. 25: calls for a balanced budget by Fiscal Year 2023 by reducing spending by $4.6 trillion over the next 10 years, including repealing the Affordable Care Act and cutting Medicare, Medicaid, and SNAP (food stamps).
H.Res. 115: authorizes $120 million in funding for 20 House committees, including the Financial Services Committee, in the 113th Congress – a 11% decrease from the second session of the 112th Congress.
Motion to Concur in the Senate Amendment to H.R. 933: funds government operations through September 30, the remainder of Fiscal Year 2013. (The current continuing resolution funding the government expires March 27). All of this funding will be subject to the across-the-board sequestration that began March 1, which cuts $85 billion from FY 2013 spending. The Senate Amendment adds specific appropriations for the federal government’s agriculture, commerce, justice, science, and homeland security programs. When the House passed this bill the first time, it only included specific appropriations for defense.
