WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Jim Himes (CT-04) announced today that his office helped return $2,416,032.75 to constituents in 2011 who were owed Social Security checks, veterans’ benefits, tax refunds, and other payments or refunds from the federal government. Since Himes’ arrival in Congress in 2009, his staff has helped thousands of constituents cut through bureaucratic red tape.

“Helping constituent cut through the red tape of the federal government is one of my most important duties as a representative,” said Himes. “These successes mean precious dollars saved, healthcare services paid for, and veterans’ medals delivered to those who fought to defend our country. I strongly encourage anyone who is having difficulty navigating the federal government to contact my office right away.”

In the cases where Himes’ office helped secure money, payments ranged from a $15 Medicare Part D reimbursement to a $50,000 loan from the Federal Emergency Homeowners’ Loan Program.

Veterans’ benefits: $140,268.82
Housing: $91,130.42
IRS: $2,136,804.51
