The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has announced awards to three school-based health center programs in the Fourth District. Family Centers, Inc. in Greenwich will receive $150,524, Optimus Health Center, Inc. in Bridgeport will receive $309,429, and Southwest Community Health Center in Bridgeport will receive $166,348.
The funding comes from the Affordable Care Act. These awards will enable them to upgrade their facilities to better serve their patients and help provide health care to 50 percent more students.
School-based health centers provide health services to all students, particularly those who are uninsured and underserved. They provide a comprehensive range of services to improve children’s health and wellness, including health screenings, health promotion and disease prevention activities while enabling children with acute or chronic illnesses to attend school.
