I had the honor of attending the annual observance of Colombian Independence Day and the flag-raising ceremony held in Stamford this past Sunday.
For 201 years, Colombians around the world have celebrated their nation's independence from Spain in 1810. Locally, the Colombo Hispanic American Association of Connecticut commemorates the event each year and raises the Colombian flag alongside those of the United States and the state of Connecticut in a show of unity between our countries.
I joined the Association's president, Jesus Anthony Bravo, along with representatives from the offices of Mayor Pavia and Governor Malloy to recognize and affirm the important relationship between Colombia and the United States and to recognize the valuable contributions of Colombian-Americans to the quality of life in the fourth district.
