October is National Cyber Security Awareness Month, and I’d like to join the effort and share some important information to help keep you and your family safe online.
This is an initiative of the Homeland Security Department; DHS encourages all Americans to “Stop, Think, and Connect” when socializing or doing business online. It’s important that each of us understand the potential threats when we go online, and what we can do to make sure we don’t compromise personal information or safety.
Parents can help their kids understand the risks and benefits of connecting with others online and identify potentially dangerous situations. Schools can help students assess the reliability of sources as they conduct research and identify malicious practices. Businesses and individuals can take steps to combat identity theft and keep online commerce safe.
You can find more information at the links below. If we stay informed and remain alert, we can all enjoy the benefits of 21st century technology while staying safe, maintaining our privacy, and keeping our financial information secure.
