STAMFORD, CT – Congressman Jim Himes today joined seniors at the Cross Road Residences in Stamford to tour the facility, which is being renovated with funding from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The project creates six new construction jobs in Stamford and makes long-overdue renovations including replacing an aging roof, installing new, more energy-efficient windows, and adding vinyl siding.

“We need to ensure seniors have access to safe, decent, affordable housing, and this project is a win-win,” said Congressman Himes. “Cross Road Residences is a great example of smart investment that’s creating jobs right here in Stamford.”

February 17th marks the one-year anniversary of the Recovery Act, which invested $120,000 to complete renovations of Cross Road Residences, a 24-unit facility that houses seniors living on limited incomes. Renovations were already underway, funded by a Community Development Block Grant and Cross Road’s replacement reserves, when it became evident more work would be necessary in order to preserve the living space. This timely grant provided the necessary funding to complete the building’s rehabilitation. The Recovery Act funding is provided through the Community Development Block Grant program, administered by the Department of Housing and Urban Development. Grants are made on a formula basis to municipalities, which in turn decide how to allocate their block grants among projects.

“Stamford cross road residences came from a long stream of generosity that has created community wherever it flowed,” Jeanne Courter, President of Stamford Cross Road Residences. “We are thankful for the Congressman's Himes continuing support.”
