Washington, DC – Congressman Jim Himes (CT-04) issued the following statement on his vote against Republicans’ partisan continuing resolution:

“Every government funding bill in recent history has required bipartisan support, but for some reason Donald Trump believes that he doesn’t need Democrats to prevent a shutdown. Republican leadership showed the same when they refused to negotiate in good faith. I’m not sure what they think is going to happen when this continuing resolution reaches the Senate and needs 60 votes to pass, but I do know that they’re playing awfully fast and loose with the paychecks of thousands of Americans, funding for critical federal programs, and the stability of our government.

“We may soon see young servicemembers in line at food banks, air traffic controllers and TSA agents walking off the job without pay, and the families of federal employees no longer able to make rent. Maybe then my colleagues will accept that government funding is more than a partisan game and engage with Democratic leaders to pass a reasonable bill.”
