Washington, DC--- Congressman Jim Himes (CT-4) helped pass bipartisan legislation to ease veterans’ transition into civilian life when they return home from active duty. The Wounded Veteran Job Security Act overwhelmingly passed the United State House or Representatives late yesterday.
“For too long, veterans have faced unfair obstacles to getting the jobs and health care benefits that they more than deserve,” said Congressman Himes. “The bill we passed will help ensure injured veterans do not have to fight to get their job back when they return home from active duty.”
The Wounded Veteran Job Security Act requires that veterans who seek medical treatment due to their military service are promptly reemployed when they are able to return to work. Often, wounded veterans must endure weeks or months of medical treatment to recover from injuries sustained in combat. This bill ensures these individuals will not lose the opportunity to return to their job because of additional time they must spend recuperating once they have returned home.
The legislation now heads to the Senate for approval.
