Himes Statement on World AIDS Day

November 30, 2012
Press Release

WASHINGTON, DC—Congressman Jim Himes (CT-4) released the following statement regarding World AIDS Day, which falls on Saturday:

“We have made great strides in the prevention and treatment of HIV/AIDS since the first infections were discovered in 1981. But with over 25 million casualties worldwide and nearly 3 million new infections every year, this continues to be a rampant and deadly epidemic. On the 19th World AIDS Day and the 31st anniversary of the first diagnosis, let us rededicate ourselves to the fight against HIV/AIDS.

We know that we are just years away from finding a cure for HIV/AIDS and eradicating this disease once and for all. The science is there, the willpower is there, but the resources are not. That is why I introduced the Cure for AIDS Act to fund research and development for a cure, and that is why I am recommitting myself fully today to securing an AIDS-free world.”
