WASHINGTON, DC—Congressman Jim Himes (CT-4) issued the following statement regarding House Speaker John Boehner’s decision to allow a vote as early as today on legislation to fund the Department of Homeland Security without undermining President Obama’s immigration actions.

“I’m pleased that we’re moving closer to preventing a disastrous Department of Homeland Security shutdown that would jeopardize the ability of police, firefighters and first responders to keep Connecticut families safe. Senate Republicans and Democrats came together to pass legislation that ensures the Department of Homeland Security will have the long-term funding it needs to protect our nation, without tacking on partisan conditions. I urge House Republicans to join Democrats in supporting the Senate’s bipartisan bill. Congress must make government work again and end the cycle of dysfunction that has gripped Washington for far too long.”
