Today, Congressman Jim Himes (CT-04) announced that the Center for Contemporary Printmaking received a $50,000 CARES Act grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. The Center for Contemporary Printmaking is a nonprofit arts organization that has served Norwalk since 1995.

“Art nonprofit organizations, like the Center for Contemporary Printmaking, boost our economy by attracting tourism and encouraging economic investment,” said Congressman Himes. “It is vital that we protect the vibrant arts economy in Southwest Connecticut while we fight the pandemic. The $50,000 grant will be used to keep employees on the payroll and establish online classes. I look forward to visiting the Center for Contemporary Printmaking for many years to come.”

The Center for Contemporary Printmaking is devoted to the entire spectrum of printmaking, including: intaglio, lithography, monotype, silkscreen, woodblock printing, paper works, book arts, and digital arts. The Center for Contemporary Printmaking offers workshops, edition printing with master printers, exhibitions, community programs, and an Artist-in-Residence Program.

Congressman Himes co-sponsored and voted for the CARES Act, which was signed into law on March 27, 2020. This wide-ranging economic rescue package provided rapid and meaningful relief for individuals and businesses through a series of programs, including the CARES Act Emergency Relief Grant. Through this program, the Connecticut Office of Arts distributed $350,000 to 122 non-profit arts organizations statewide. These one-time grants ranged from $1,500 to $3,000 per organization and were randomly selected with attention to geographic distribution. Click here to learn more.
