This Week in Congress: February 4, 2013
This week, the House is expected to consider four bills, on topics ranging from veterans to the budget.
Legislation under consideration this week includes:
Children's Hospital GME Support Reauthorization Act of 2013 (H.R. 297): appropriates $330 million per year to the Children’s Hospital Graduate Medical Education Program through Fiscal Year 2017. Requires the Health Resources and Services Administration to submit a report to Congress on program performance by the end of FY 2016.
Veteran Emergency Medical Technician Support Act of 2013 (H.R. 235): establishes a grant program for state demonstration projects that take military medical training into account when determining what requirements an individual must meet to become an Emergency Medical Technician.
National Pediatric Research Network Act of 2013 (H.R. 225): authorizes the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to establish a National Pediatric Research Network of public research institutions and nonprofit entities that conduct pediatric research, and to make grants to support that research.
Require a PLAN Act (H.R. 444): requires the president, if his FY 2014 budget projects a deficit for any year over the next 10 years, to submit a supplemental budget showing when and how a balanced budget would eventually be reached. This supplement must include an estimate of the earliest fiscal year in which no deficit would occur and a detailed description of the policies that would have to be implemented to achieve a balanced budget.
